Comments - Handsome triptych depicting the legendary Empress Jingu and her troops. She was famous for invading Korea in the third century. She sits on a folding stool at right with a battle fan in hand, wearing a tunic and pants over a suit of armor, surrounded by retainers. At bottom center, her minister Takenouchi no Sukune crouches on the ground, holding a baby to his chest. At lower left, treasures are piled atop trays alongside rolls of cloth, while at upper left, other samurai carry cloth-wrapped bundles from a ship with a magnificent rooster or phoenix prow. Pine trees frame the ocean with a red sun on the horizon. An interesting subject, nicely detailed.
